A desktop feasibility study and front-end engineering design study have been conducted to determine the optimal equipment and design choices for a 100% hydrogen energy delivery system. This project will promote new hydrogen technologies and stimulate growth in Alberta’s nascent low-carbon hydrogen sector. Alberta Innovates provided funding for this work

Alberta has an existing track record of producing and using hydrogen for industrial processes. However, there is an untapped opportunity for Alberta to lead in hydrogen-related technology as well as production.

Using hydrogen for residential heating could help jump start a made-in-Alberta hydrogen appliance industry, creating many desirable jobs in technical design and manufacturing. It will also help establish policies that enable 100% hydrogen communities, presenting a more affordable and attainable low-carbon alternative than full electrification for home heating needs.
